What I am Thankful For

I am thankful for many things but here are my top three. First, I am thankful for my family because they are always there for me unconditionally when I need them. For example when I’m stressed, discouraged they make sure to lift me up. Another reason I am thankful for my family is they have sacrificed a lot to make my childhood as amazing it can be. They also make sure to put our needs before theirs. Secondly, I am thankful for a good education because I am getting the building block of information that will help me throughout my next years and teaching me life skills I need to be successful. In addition, I know that somewhere in the world kids like me can’t get an education. Lastly, I am thankful for my cozy home and all the yummy food I get to have. I’m grateful to live in a safe environment and in my opinion, my house feels like my safe place, where I can chill when I come home from school. Also, my home protects me from all the dangerous environmental conditions out there such as rain, wind and all the unexpected weather conditions. Lastly, I’m thankful for all the yummy food I get to experience such as, treating myself to lamb chop, sushi , and boba.

Wishes

If I were granted 3 wishes I would ask for a luxury beach estate that I designed. The reason why I chose this is I’ve dreamed of owning and building a house for my whole childhood. Also, living on the beach is beautiful because you can watch the waves and see the sunset shine over your house. Secondly, I would wish for the smartest brain in the world. I would wish for this because if you’re very smart then you can make anything happen. For example, at school there would be no need for study or homework by the way did you know homework could stand for half of my evening wasted on ridiculous knowledge (just kidding.) Another example is you can get rich by creating anything. My last wish is the most realistic one and with that being said I would wish for a dog. I would choose this because I’ve been wanting for a dog for my whole life. Also, a dog is also a great friend to have.

Rad Reading October

In September, I read the book called Key Player by Kelly Yang. This novel is a realistic fiction written from the point of view of a 14 year old girl named Mia Tang, who has a passion for journaling. Mia’s Mom and Dad own a motel called the Calivista. Her Mom is a full time math teacher but when she gets off from work she assists cleaning the Calivista. She helps with the laundry, dishes and overall maintenance. She has a loyal group of friends Lupe, Jason, and Hank. At the Calivista Hank and Jason runs the restaurant called East Meets West. In the book, her dream is to attend a journalism camp but sadly her P.E. grade is weighing her down. To improve her grade, she made a deal with the P.E. teacher, Mr. Antwell, that he would raise her grade if she got an impressive interview with the Chinese National team or the USA National team. While Mia is figuring things out, her family is busy hopping from house to house trying to find their dream home.

I recommend Key Player by Kelly Yang because you feel like you are one of the characters in the book. This book is full of emotions and hardships, which makes the story more compelling and entertaining. While reading, Mia encounters many conflicts, and it’s exciting to see how she responsibly manages them. Her skills are one of a kind and we should learn from them. Additionally, if you love playing or watching soccer, this book Is definitely for you. You will love how Kelly Yang adds the topic throughout the whole story.

In this book Key Player, Mia’s Mom happens to be my personal favorite character. She is determined and diligent who works very hard to accomplish her goals. A quote that proves she is determined is “Got all my punctuation cards right here.” “In case the other coaches try to out-English me.” This shows that she is determined since she takes time out of her life to learn and perfect her English. Additionally, she is hard-working by not being lazy to write down the cards. Therefore, Mia’s Mom works hard to learn English so can look professional against the other coaches and judges.

My favorite quote from the story is on (page 271) “We are very impressed with your coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and we’d like to invite you to attend our journalism program this winter.” “Once I heard this news I screamed. ” I like this quote because it proves how Mia’s P.E teacher Mr. Antwell pushed her to work harder and regain her confidence. Without a boost of confidence, she would have never been able to achieve many goals such as, meeting China’s team members and best of all accomplishing her goal of attending the program.
